Harriet Tubman Room (1820-1913)

Step into history with our Harriet Tubman-themed room, an homage to one of America’s most courageous leaders. This thoughtfully designed space captures the spirit of Tubman’s enduring legacy, featuring decor inspired by the Underground Railroad and her invaluable contributions to freedom. Immerse yourself in the stories of resilience and heroism while surrounded by historical artifacts, artwork, and nods to the era. Staying in this room offers more than comfort—it’s an invitation to reflect on the life and impact of the “Moses of her people” in a setting as historic as her tale.
Born into slavery in 1820, Harriet Tubman, originally named Araminta Rose, adopted her mother's name at the age of five. Tubman became one of history's most iconic figures through her extraordinary bravery and tireless efforts to lead enslaved individuals to freedom using the Underground Railroad—an intricate secret network of safe houses.

During the American Civil War, Tubman served as a scout and nurse, aiding the Union in the fight against slavery. Her unwavering determination and success as the Underground Railroad's most renowned conductor earned her the nickname “Moses of her people.” Remarkably, she never lost a single fugitive she guided to freedom.

Despite receiving little recognition or compensation during her lifetime, Tubman was later honored for her contributions. In the late 1890s, a private bill granted her $20 per month, which she used to establish the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged and Indigent in Auburn, New York. Tubman lived there until her passing in 1913.

In November 2024, Harriet Tubman was posthumously awarded the rank of one-star brigadier general in the Maryland National Guard, solidifying her legacy as a courageous leader and a pivotal figure in the fight for freedom.
